R. Shawn Oliphant is a founding partner of the firm Fahrendorf, Viloria, Oliphant & Oster L.L.P., and is the head of the firm's Real Estate, Development and Construction Law group. Mr. Oliphant is recognized as one of the top construction law attorneys in Nevada whose practice focuses on the representation of developers, contractors, engineers and architects in all aspects of construction law. Mr. Oliphant regularly represents design professionals and developers in complex multi-million dollar construction cases.
Mr. Oliphant represents developers and landowners in real estate acquisitions, processing entitlements and development of land and multi-use conversion projects. Mr. Oliphant's leadership in development and construction law is reflected in the firm's clients which make up the who's who in Northern Nevada's development and design professional industry.
Mr. Oliphant has served as panel counsel for a large number of insurance companies and has defended complex construction defect litigation on behalf of design professionals and developers throughout the community. Mr. Oliphant has served as a key note speaker and lecturer on a variety of construction law topics for the Builders Association of Northern Nevada, the American Institute of Architects, and the Nevada Association of Land Surveyors.
Mr. Oliphant is a native northern Nevadan and received his bachelor degree in Business Administration with distinction from the University of Nevada. Mr. Oliphant attended law school at the University of Arizona where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and Order of the Coif, and served on the Law Review Editorial Board. Mr. Oliphant's law review Note encouraging the legalization of gaming advertisements was published in the University of Arizona Law review and has been cited and followed in United States Supreme Court cases and law review articles.
Mr. Oliphant is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the State of Nevada, the U.S. District Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Oliphant is a member of the American Bar Association, ABA Construction Industry Forum Member, Builders Association of Northern Nevada Member and Faculty Guest Lecturer, National Registry of Who’s Who in America, Order of the Coif, Goldenkey National Honors Society, Phi Beta Kappa National Business Honors Society and the Ducks Unlimited Committee Member for the Sparks Nevada Chapter. Mr. Oliphant has been awarded the Western Interstate Commission of Higher Education Award for Nevada, Army NationalScholar/Athlete of the Year, Snell & Wilmer Outstanding Law Review Note and Stan Barnhill Excellence in Legal Writing awards.
