Thomas E. Viloria is a seasoned and respected criminal defense attorney in Reno, Nevada. He is a founding partner at Viloria, Oliphant, Oster & Aman L.L.P., where he focuses his practice on criminal defense. Mr. Viloria handles complex, serious felony cases for the criminally accused, such as Reckless Driving Causing Death or Injury, date or acquaintance sex offenses, murder, robbery, possession, sales and/or trafficking of controlled substances. He also handles DUI and Domestic Battery Cases, and other crimes. Mr. Viloria has over 30 years of experience handling criminal cases. He is an experienced trial attorney with proven results in over 75 jury trials and countless misdemeanor trials. Mr. Viloria has been involved in the prosecution and/or defense of over 80 murder cases. He has been trial counsel in 5 Death Penalty Cases.

He is well-versed in the rules of evidence, criminal law, and procedure using his knowledge, experience, insight, and trial skills to develop strong defenses to criminal charges. When needed he develops effective mitigation evidence on behalf of clients to reduce any sentence and avoid prison or jail time. He has a reputation for crafting aggressive, strategic, and compelling defense cases in front of the jury for his clients. He is known for his thorough trial preparation, ability to command the courtroom, and his control of the issues in the courtroom leading to favorable defense verdicts.

As a former member of the Major Violator’s Unit for the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, he was responsible for the prosecution of the most serious criminal cases involving charges of murder, including cases involving the death penalty. During this time, Mr. Viloria was recognized by a Judge as “one of the very best prosecutors in the country.” More recently, one Judge commented, “the best trial lawyer in Nevada.”

Mr. Viloria also effectively advocates for select clients in certain civil litigation cases, as well as serious personal injury cases, and wrongful death claims. Over the course of his career, Mr. Viloria has successfully recovered millions of dollars in compensation for injury victims.

Over the years, Mr. Viloria has spoken at numerous seminars, providing lectures for a wide range of legal professionals and students. He was even a featured speaker for the Nevada District Court Judges’ conference on Evidence. He previously served as an instructor/teacher at Truckee Meadows Community College; the University of California, Berkley; California State University, Stanislaus; the University of Nevada, Reno; and the Reno-Sparks Police Academy.
