Do Motorcycle Helmets Work?

For many years, people wondered if a motorcycle helmet was worth wearing. As of late, however, this question has been answered time after time: Helmets save lives.

You never know if you will be involved in a motorcycle accident, but this can absolutely happen at any time. This is why it is important for every rider to wear a helmet that is approved by the Department of Transportation.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, helmets reduce the likelihood of death in an accident by 37 percent. This information has led to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimating that helmets saved more than 1,500 lives in 2010 alone.

Brain injuries are the leading cause of death in motorcycle accidents. Even when an accident is not fatal, the lack of a helmet can cause a brain injury that leads to a lifelong disability.

Since 1974, every motorcycle helmet has been required to meet the DOT standard in terms of minimum protection. Even so, this doesn't mean that people are always going to wear a helmet. In fact, this is not required in many states.

There is no denying the fact that motorcycle helmets can prevent injury and death in the event of an accident.

Even if you are an experienced driver who obeys all the rules of the road, you could be involved in an accident caused by another person, such as the driver of a passenger vehicle or truck.

A motorcycle helmet will not prevent every injury, but it can definitely improve your chance of survival in a crash.
