Nevada Woman Facing Voter Registration Fraud Charges

A woman from Pahrump, Nevada, which is located in Nye County, is facing 11 felony counts of voter registration fraud, voter intimidation, and perjury. She was jailed with bail set at $100,000. The charges came after an investigation by Nevada authorities and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to the Nevada Secretary of State's office, prior to Nevada's June 14 primary election, the 45-year-old woman was reportedly working for a group called Engage Nevada, which is a conservative voter registration group, registering voters outside of a Wal-Mart store. The group has said that it plans to cooperate with the investigation and stressed its commitment to "comply with both the letter and the spirit of the law."

It's was not reported whether or not the group knew that the woman had felony convictions involving attempted burglary and drugs on her record when she was assigned to register voters. Under Nevada law, she is prohibited from voting. However, according to the current complaint against her, she attempted to register on more than one occasion to vote. Agencies are prohibited from knowingly allowing people convicted of some crimes, including theft and fraud, from registering voters.

Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske has urged voters in Nye County to verify that their voter registrations are accurate. This can be done at the Secretary of State's website.

It's not known whether the woman has an attorney. However, charges like this are serious. It's important to have the representation of an experienced Nevada criminal defense attorney to protect your rights and guide you through the justice system.
