Darby G. Phelps is an associate attorney at Viloria, Oliphant, Oster & Aman L.L.P. practicing primarily in the areas of civil and commercial litigation, business law, construction law, probate, and trust and estate litigation.
Ms. Phelps has a strong background in litigation, having made hundreds of court appearances in justice court, state court, and federal court. Ms. Phelps previously served the community as a Deputy District Attorney at the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted felony crimes including child abuse, robbery with a deadly weapon, residential burglary, battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, and attempted murder with a deadly weapon. Ms. Phelps also served as a Deputy Attorney General in the Bureau of Litigation at the Nevada Attorney General’s Office.
Ms. Phelps started her legal career as a law clerk for the Honorable Elliott A. Sattler at the Second Judicial District Court for the State of Nevada, where she worked predominately on civil matters including complex construction defect cases, medical malpractice claims, contract disputes, shareholder issues, and other business disputes. During law school, she was a legal extern to Magistrate Judge Michael T. Parker of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi.
Ms. Phelps was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. After graduating high school, Ms. Phelps attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where she graduated with highest honors. She was then awarded a full-tuition scholarship to Mississippi College School of Law, where she went on to graduate summa cum laude in 2017. Ms. Phelps received numerous awards while in law school, including the American Board of Trial Advocates Award for her exceptional performance in Trial Practice, and the Frisby Griffing Marble Scholarship for exhibiting potential for outstanding service to the legal profession. She also received five American Jurisprudence Awards for being best in class in Evidence, Sales and Leasing, Legal Writing I, Legal Writing II, and Legal Writing III.
