Richard M. Viloria, a passionate and experienced trial lawyer, is an associate attorney at Viloria, Oliphant, Oster & Aman L.L.P., where he focuses his practice in the areas of divorce, family law, and criminal defense. Mr. Viloria has developed a strong reputation in our community as a tireless advocate, and he is recognized as a creative practitioner, litigator, and skilled negotiator.
Mr. Viloria has spent thousands of hours in the courtroom. However, he takes the most pride in his dedication to building long-lasting relationships with his clients. For Mr. Viloria, the interests of his clients come first, and his goal is to help them navigate the challenges they face when marrying, seeking a divorce, battling child custody issues, determining child support, or facing accusations alleged by government prosecutors.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Viloria honorably served as Deputy Public Defender for the Washoe County Public Defender’s office in Reno, Nevada. As a public defender, Mr. Viloria’s mission was to protect and defend the rights of indigent people in Washoe County by providing them with zealous, professional legal representation. During his five years at the office, Mr. Viloria handled a myriad of criminal cases ranging from simple misdemeanors involving drugs or violence to complex felony matters involving sexual assault or homicide. Mr. Viloria demonstrated a work ethic and analytical mind that made him a respected colleague and formidable opponent resulting in numerous successes in the courtroom—including favorable jury verdicts.
Before serving as a public defender, Mr. Viloria proudly served as a law clerk to the Honorable Scott N. Freeman of the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County. During his clerkship, Mr. Viloria gained a wealth of invaluable knowledge and played a critical role in the judicial decision-making process in both civil and criminal matters.
Mr. Viloria earned his law degree at the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. He is also a proud graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, where he earned his B.S. in liberal arts.
Though he devotes his time and efforts to his clients, Mr. Viloria prides himself in his devotion to his community and alma mater. For instance, he currently serves as a board member for the Nevada Alumni Council, which is a volunteer governing body of the University of Nevada, Reno Alumni Association. In addition, he serves as an appointed member of the City of Reno Charter Committee, which focuses its efforts on developing effective and modern ways to make for a more efficient city government.
