Spring Valley, NV - Two Hurt in Motorcycle-Vehicle Crash at Starboard & Durango Dr

Spring Valley, NV (November 21, 2023) - On Saturday, November 18, two people were hurt following a motorcycle crash in the Spring Valley area. The accident was reported at the corner of S. Duragno Drive and Starboard Drive at around 4:33 p.m. Local sources indicate that a motorcyclist was traveling south on Durango Drive as a 26-year-old driving a 2013 Nissan Versa drove into the path of the rider as they made a left turn at the intersection.

The two vehicles collided, and the rider was ejected from the bike, which came to a rest along a curb. The rider landed on some cacti and other landscaping near the crossroad. Both the rider and the other driver were transported to UMC for treatment of sustained injuries, with the motorcyclist reportedly suffering life-threatening injuries. Neither driver was impaired at the time of the crash. No further information has been provided at this time. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is in the hands of local law enforcement officials.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Motorcycle Crashes in Nevada

Riding a motorcycle is a feeling like no other. However, every rider knows the danger that comes with getting on the back of a bike. In Nevada, a recent four-year study found that almost 19 percent of roadway deaths involved a motorcycle. These collisions resulted in 306 fatalities in total. Nationwide, motorcyclists are also over-represented in deadly crashes, with almost 80 percent of motorcycle crashes ending in death or injury. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 5,014 motorcycle fatalities reported in a recent year, along with 84,000 injuries.

Motorcyclists are exposed to the dangers of the road. Even if they wear all the required safety equipment, there is little protecting them from the full impact of a motor vehicle. The nature and design of a bike mean that the rider is at risk of being thrown from the vehicle in a crash and suffering serious injuries. This is one of the many reasons that motorcyclists are often involved in fatal traffic accidents. You need to be prepared if you or someone close to you is hurt in a serious motorcycle accident.
