Las Vegas, NV - Two Killed in DUI Collision on Boulder Hwy

Las Vegas, NV (April 18, 2024) - Two people were killed after a suspected DUI crash in the Las Vegas area on Wednesday, April 17. The fatal accident was reported on Boulder Highway south of Dalhart Street that night around 7:37 p.m. It was later revealed that a 2014 KIA Rio was headed northbound at a high rate of speed as several pedestrians waiting for a bus at a nearby RTC stop.

Local reports indicated that the KIA left the road where it hit several fixed objects that it carried into the RTC stop, striking several pedestrians and sending them onto the road. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to render aid to the involved parties. Three pedestrians were transported to the University Medical Center Trauma Center by ambulance for the treatment of sustained injuries. One of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, and the other two were listed in serious condition.

Two other pedestrians, a 42-year-old man and a 14-year-old teen, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 64-year-old Cynthia Phelps, showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody for DUI-related charges. She was also treated for minor injuries. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
