Reno Bus Driver Killed in 'Bizarre Sequence of Accidents'

A Reno Citifare bus driver was killed on the evening of Friday, June 3 in what a Regional Transportation Commission spokesman called "a bizarre sequence of accidents." According to Reno police, the incident began when the bus and a small car collided in Stead near Silver Sky Parkway and Silver Lake Road. When the bus driver got out to look at the damage to the vehicle, he was struck by an SUV. That SUV was then hit by yet another vehicle.

The bus driver, who has not yet been publicly identified, was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center. However, he did not survive his injuries. Reportedly, none of the passengers on the bus or anyone in the other three vehicles was injured.

The tragic accident is still being investigated by the Major Accident Investigation Team of the Reno Police Department. Investigators are seeking information from anyone who witnessed or knows anything about the crash. They are saying that they don't believe that any of the drivers was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Investigators believe that since all of the vehicles involved were heading west as the sun was setting around 7:40 p.m., their ability to see may have been impacted by the sun's glare.

While most vehicle accidents aren't this complicated, a thorough investigation is still often required to determine the cause and who was at fault -- particularly when there are serious injuries or fatalities. Even if criminal charges aren't filed, it may still be possible to take civil action against any at-fault drivers. This can help cover medical bills, lost wages and other damages.
