Reno Doctor Arrested for Drug Possession, Distribution

A Reno physician has been arrested for illegal distribution and possession of drugs, including oxycodone. A number of other people in the Reno area were also arrested in the case.

The doctor, however, was the only one to be detained. The judge in the case says that this is because the physician poses a "significant risk" of not appearing at his next scheduled hearing even though his parents reportedly said that they would keep him in their home.

The physician was charged with intent to distribute the drugs as well as conspiracy to distribute and possess them. His attorney contends that his client has been "overcharged."

The growing problem of prescription drug addiction, particularly involving drugs like oxycodone, has become a focus of prosecutors at all levels throughout the county. According to a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, they have "prioritized unlawful prescription drug distribution cases, and plan to shut down dangerous 'pill mill' operations that are contributing to what amounts to, in many instances, a deadly problem."

Law enforcement allegedly discovered the drugs hydrocodone and fentanyl in the Reno doctor's home. They also say that they found three guns in his car.

Police and prosecutors in Nevada and throughout the country are cracking down on the possession and distribution of prescription drugs due to the epidemic of prescription drug-related overdoses and fatalities. Doctors are by no means immune from this crackdown.

If you or a loved one are facing charges related to prescription drugs, it's essential to take them seriously and to obtain legal guidance. A Nevada criminal defense attorney will work to protect your rights and guide you through the justice system.
