Pedestrian Killed in Carson City Crosswalk

no image

For the second time in less than two months, there has been a fatal car/pedestrian accident in the same area of Carson City. This is despite the fact that officials have implemented improved enforcement measures to make the crosswalks safer for pedestrians.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the victim was in a marked crosswalk at the corner of Gordon Street and Fairview Drive near Highway 50 on the night of March 2 when she was struck by a van. Although she was transported to the hospital, the Carson City woman did not survive her injuries.

The NHP is still investigating the crash. They are asking for anyone who witnessed the white van strike the woman or who knows anything about the accident to come forward. They have not yet determined whether either the driver of the van or the 46-year-old pedestrian was impaired at the time of the fatal crash.

Many pedestrians feel safe while using a marked crosswalk to cross the street, However, even if you have the right of way, that doesn't necessarily mean that drivers are going to give it to you. Too often, they turn into a crosswalk or fail to stop before entering it without looking to ensure that there's no one there. Night is a particularly dangerous time for pedestrians, even on well-lit streets.

Pedestrian/vehicle accidents often result in serious and sometimes fatal injuries for the pedestrians involved. If you've been the victim of such an accident or are a surviving family member of someone who was killed, you should seek advice on your legal options.
