Jesse B. Kalter, Esq. has been a highly respected criminal defense attorney in Northern Nevada for two decades. He has personally represented thousands of clients ranging from misdemeanor offenses to the most serious felony charges. Unlike many criminal defense lawyers with little trial experience, he has a long track record of actually taking cases to jury trial. This has resulted in countless successful verdicts for his clients. Mr. Kalter has also had hundreds of cases dismissed or reduced for his clients without a trial which is because prosecutors appreciate his knowledge of the law, the preparation and tenacity he puts into his clients’ defense, and his ability to perform in a courtroom. After 19 years of mostly private solo practice, Mr. Kalter is honored to be joining Viloria, Oliphant, Oster & Aman as a partner in 2026.
Mr. Kalter graduated from Gettysburg College with a B.A. in English in 2001. He then graduated from Western New England University School of Law with his J.D. in 2005. Following law school, Mr. Kalter moved across the country to Northern Nevada where he has called home ever since. Drawn to the tremendous outdoor sporting activities the area has to offer, Mr. Kalter knew this was the place he wanted to permanently live and practice. Mr. Kalter was licensed to practiced law by both the State Bar of Nevada and the United States District Court of Nevada in 2006. From there, he was off to the races and opened his own general practice law firm and at the same time accepted a Lyon County indigent defense contract which he fulfilled until the end of 2011. This gave Mr. Kalter the opportunity to handle every type of criminal case imaginable and to try countless jury trials to verdict. In January of 2012, Mr. Kalter relinquished the indigent defense contract and went out full time in private practice with Jesse Kalter Law, P.C. In addition to his continued pursuit of justice for his clients, and thousands of appearances in court, many in the public came to know Mr. Kalter as the one to coin the phrase “What’s Your Freedom Worth?”
Along his career, Mr. Kalter has been named to The Global Directory of “Who’s Who” as a “Top Lawyer Lifetime Member.” Mr. Kalter was also named 10 years in a row to the “The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Trial Lawyers.” In addition to his years of experience in criminal defense, Mr. Kalter has also obtained millions of dollars for clients in personal injury cases.
